“WHAT DO YOU SAY TO THAT?”
Matthew 16:13-17

What exactly does it look like when someone becomes a Christian? What does it feel like and what do we have to do?

Jesus was a very practical and down to earth guy. He didn't teach high and lofty concepts and ideas. He demonstrated everything he taught. Look at his life!

In an age of so called reality in which we have so many fake reality shows on TV Jesus is the "Ultimate Reality”.  (2 Corinthians 5:19)

We practice the presence of God in the world:
a. loving neighbors,
b. feeding the hungry,
c. caring for the sick,
d. comforting those in sorrow,
e. welcoming the stranger,
f. teaching the young
g. giving of themselves to make this a better world.

This doesn’t mean that doctrine isn’t important.  The more we know about what we believe the more we are willing to take those steps of faith.

Christianity is Christ. To each of us, Jesus asks that very pointed question, “Who do you say that I am?”

WHY DO WE WAIT?

Judges 4:1-16

The first few verses of our text tell us that the Israelites had done what was evil in the sight of the Lord and they had been conquered by a Canaanite king named Sisera.  He had a powerful army and he had treated them cruelly for some twenty years.  Judges 4:3 says that after twenty years they cried out to the Lord for help.  This brings us to the first point which I put in the form of a question.

How long will we wait to call upon the Lord?

We draw close to God when we stop caring who gets the credit for things in our life.

The third principle at work here is to make sure we associate with good folks.

Like the song we sing, “The battle belongs to the Lord.”  Make sure he’s the one doing the fighting.  When that happens things will begin to change.

FANNING THE FLAMES OF THE SPIRIT
Leviticus 6:12-13

Leviticus is about holiness, it is about obedience, and it is about knowing and being the children of God.  So don’t be intimidated by Leviticus!  It is God’s Word and very much worth reading.  There are several things God said to Moses in these verses that speak to us today.

First we need to begin the day with intentionality.

The second thing is to arrange the day around God.  (Hebrews 13:15)

Thirdly we fan the fire with the presence of other Christians.   First John 1:7

When we do this, our lives will burn with a passion for God that can never be extinguished.

THE PATH OF BLESSING
Psalm 146:5-10

In today’s David talks about how we can find happiness.  The bible points to a path we can follow that leads us in that direction.

The first step is in knowing that God wants to bless us.  Luke 2:14, John 3:16

Secondly; God wants us to turn to him first.  Psalm 34:6

The third step is to hope in the Lord alone.

It's not always an easy path to follow because it involves                  a. obedience                                                                                          b. commitment                                                                                               c. service                                                                                                  d. compassion

God wants us to be blessed. As David said, “Happy is the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God.”

“A CHILD OF THE KING”
Psalm 72:1-7

Today, we look at Psalm 72. This one is actually attributed not to David but to Solomon, writer of the book of Proverbs, the son of David the King. Today, as we approach Christmas, I want to consider what we can do to serve the world around us.

First of all we can save those we can reach.

Secondly we can renew and restore those who need it.

Then, let’s stay with those who need us.

The King of Kings came not to be served, but to serve. We follow his example.
