Faith Presbyterian Church

At Faith Presbyterian Church:
We confess Jesus Christ as:
Lord…. One who rules in this life and the life to come.
We confess Jesus Christ as
Savior…. One who saves us from sin and death in this life and the life to come.

Everything we do at Faith relates to this confession.
We practice baptism because Jesus commanded it and the ceremony points us to Jesus Christ.
Everyone who attends participates in baptism.  It is not a service where the congregation is a spectator, but rather, all are recipients of God’s love as much as the one who is baptized.  This is why we do not participate in “private” baptisms.  Baptism takes place during congregational worship, because it is for the entire church family.

As we participate in baptismal services, we are reminded of the following joys.
God does not wait until we are old enough to understand.
God loves us all – both children and adults.
Jesus comes to us before we turn to him.
Forgiveness is not earned, it is a gift of God.
We are helpless in earning our own salvation.
The water is a symbol of Jesus, the living water.
The congregation is in effect the “Godparents” who make promises to the child, the parents and to God

Baptism is one of the two sacraments of the Presbyterian Church.

As an individual is baptized, the community of faith is united in their promise to nurture that person as he or she grows in Christ.

Who is baptized?

Both children and adults are recipients of this covenant and may be baptized. However, one needs to be a member of Faith Presbyterian in order to receive baptism.  When parents desire to present their infant or young child for baptism, at least one of them must be a member of Faith Presbyterian.  To this end the common question is, "What must I do to become a member of Faith Presbyterian Church?"  The answer is simple!  Start attending worship and get to know us as a faith family!  After several months of consistent attendance you can decide whether you want to become a part of FPC.  If you choose to do so, then once you join, you can meet with the pastor to schedule a time for this joyful sacrament!

We believe in one baptism and the church universal.

If your walk with Christ began at another Christian church where you were baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, that baptism is recognized here at Faith Presbyterian and all PC (USA) churches.

If you desire to be baptized or have your child baptized, please speak with the pastor or call the church office at 815-385-5388. Baptisms take place during our normal worship services.
